Sketchy Traffic Strategies

I just finished reading this article about getting free traffic to your website. The article introduces an invite-only service called diggboss. Diggboss is supposedly a community driven approach to help your socially bookmarked websites get popular in order to bring you a large amount of traffic in a short time.
This concept ties into society’s need for instant gratification – write a crappy cookie-cutter article, use the service, and get non sticky traffic. I don’t like this idea because you’re writing for the purpose of traffic, not for the purpose of doing anything useful. I can see that this service would be useful for webmasters that are really trying to promote their content-driven site, but I expect that it will end up being used by lazy webmasters who create “top 10″ lists that have been done hundreds of times in the past.
I think that those writing for content based visitors do benefit from a service like this but a problem with popular social bookmarking sites is that users hardly ever come back and they don’t click on any of your sponsored links. So, write with a purpose and use caution when using social bookmarks!
