Google’s PR Downgrades
Since reporting the recent downgrade in a lot of other blogs’ PR, many people have started to wonder what, if anything, Google’s PageRank means anymore.
In my original post, I asked why it mattered in the first place. I found out that many ad placement sites paid bloggers based on their PR. To me, that’s such a flawed strategy to start with! Those companies are relying on a 3rd party to determine their income. They should have seen this change coming – after all, there had been rumors that the PR system would change soon. I can’t remember where I read this a few months ago, but when I find it I will update this post.
Some bloggers are going as far as saying that the PR is irrelevant from now on. I don’t think that’s completely true. The PR will still be useful…just at it always has been, as a way to estimate the connectedness of a site. Maybe a lot of bloggers will lose some income because they were writing for links, not for content. Problogger.com seems to have taken the downgrade a bit personally and is running a slogan competition for those hit by the PR downgrade. My slogan: “PR P’OWND”.
