    Gyutae is Absolutely Crazy

homer is crazyGyutae Park from Winning the Web is probably one of the most prominent “up and coming” bloggers around.  Since October of last year, he has made quite a name for himself and his blog by getting users through the use of contests and giveaways.

The present seems to paint a good reflection of the past for Gyutae as he is running, in my opinion, the most insane, well organized, and well thought out contest around.  Gyutae is surely to be a huge winner from this contest.  He’s rounded up over $13,000 dollars in prizes and sponsorships and he will give it all away on April 2.

Here’s a small sample of prizes that he’ll be giving away:

    • Cash: A crazy amount of cash.  Ranging from $50 up to $650 from different sponsors!
    • Gadgets: An iPod touch, at that!
    • Special memberships to places like SEOmoz, SEOBook, and more.
    • Banner designs
    • Wordpress themes

Are you interested in any of these things?  I think you should be!  Gyutae is a genious and has worked hard to find sponsors so that he can give away these prizes!  Check out the official contest page and join in the fun!

    John Chow’s affilaite summit contest

affiliate summitThe Affiliate Summit is coming up in the end of the Febuary, and it would be a great chance to meet a lot of folks in the industry, including John Chow and other super affiliates. The only problem is that admission to the conference is almost $2000, plus airfare and hotel. Call it $3000! Since I don’t have 3000 bones to throw around (yet), I was elated when I saw that John Chow was giving away his ticket to the conference. I guess he got a free pass once he was invited to present. All you have to do to win is write a “Why I should get a free pass” type of blog entry and let John know about it so he can read it and select the most worthy candidate.

Last week I wrote an essay…and I think it was a really really good one that stood a chance at winning his pass but I haven’t posted it yet. I’m not sure why I haven’t posted it, but I think it has to do with timing. I have 2 papers due for school that week and there’s some stuff going on at work that would require a little attention while I’m gone. Plus, I’m not sure if I can rationalize taking vacation time for 2 days while I go to an affiliate summit. At least not yet.

So, with only a few more days left in this month I decided to let this contest slide. I know that a free pass would have been awesome, but when I have more free time (after May I’ll only have to worry about work!) it may be worth my while to spend the money to go to one of these shows.

Have you written an entry for this free pass? What’re you waiting for?! This is a great opportunity and I challenge you to write a post and win John’s pass! Not only would you be able to meet John Chow himself for dinner, but you’d also get to meet super affiliate Zac Johnson and others too. Industry leaders and affiliate managers will be there talking about the latest trends in affiliate marketing. It’s a great opportunity for anyone who is ready to get serious about making money online.

Start now, write a draft. Here’s how I think the winning essay should be structured:

    • Your opening paragraph should catch John’s attention. Use a quote or something that really highlights your desire to go to the summit.
    • Your next paragraph should do a quick recap of the show’s highlights and why it’s you that should go
    • Now present John with a short list. Your top 3-5 reasons why you should be selected. Be funny and creative. Check out the Affiliate Summit website and look at events, speakers, and sessions. Highlight the things that would be most beneficial to you.
    • Make sure to add a bit of flattery in having dinner with John and meeting other weblebrities (I just made that up..like celebrities for the web, maybe?) .
    • Conclude by restating your desire to be a better affiliate marketer and restate your top points. Win him over with your wit and your creativity.

There you have it, folks! This is how you can win John’s pass to the summit. Act quickly! The contest ends at the end of the month!

    Cruz vs. Park

Man oh man…what a tough choice. How is one supposed to select something knowing that either choice is right? It’s one of those “there is no wrong answer” type questions that my professors ask from time to time and it is my responsibility to convince them that my choice is the better of the two. This time I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place and need to cast my vote of support for either Tyler or Gyutae. It’s like choosing between your favorite movie or your favorite song…it’s a difficult choice for sure!

    The Contenders

Tyler “the man, the myth, and the legend” Cruz has been my “coach” these last few weeks, has provided me with some valuable tips to make my site better, has given me the awesome opportunity to make guest postings on his site, and has really inspired me to be a better blogger in general.

Gyutae “nice guys finish first” Park has also been influential in my blogging sphere as of late. Gyutae is proving to be a marketing maven and has been able to generate huge buzz for his site by giving away 1 review (valued at $450) on John Chow’s website, and has brought traffic to his and others’ sites by offering free blog audits to anyone who makes 10 genuine comments on his blog. Gyutae is a genuine nice guy and is rapidly making a good name for himself in the blogosphere.

    The Prize

This is where the contest gets interesting. As with every contest, there seems to always be a winner and a loser with the winner getting a big prize. Think the Superbowl, the BCS Championship, the World Series, the World Cup, Wimbledon, World’s Longest Fingernail, and so on. The winner gets something for winning.

With this contest, the winner doesn’t really win anything but the voters are the ones who win. If you vote for the winner, you enter for a chance to win up to $100 paid for by the LOSER of the competition.

In addition to perhaps winning $100, each candidate is giving away a freebie to sway voters one way or another. Gyutae is giving away a free T-shirt to his first 30 voters and Tyler is giving away 100 free Entrecard credits to each of his voters. Some schwag for a vote can’t hurt, right?

    My Vote

Unlike big government elections, I feel as though my vote actually counts in this race, and it is with a great degree of difficulty that I cast is. The aforementioned candidates are both very deserving of my vote. This is not a popularity contest nor is it a measure of the quality of the website. I am not voting on the basis of monthly earnings nor am I voting on the basis of friendship. I am, however, voting for the candidate with whom I can relate the most, I am voting for the guy who started his blog at the same time that I started mine and I am voting for the guy that makes me feel like I can reach my goals just like he is reaching his.

Also, since I like movies and sports where the underdog is triumphant, I am voting for Gyutae’s Winning the Web. I know that Tyler has some tricks up his sleeve and like the Chow vs. Shoemaker RSS contest, Tyler will probably unleash the hounds closer to the end of the contest.
